NIGHT SKY HAT
Updated colorway, January 15, 2024
It can be a bit deflating when a yarn you’ve designed something with is discontinued, but every now and then you get lucky and the replacement you find ends up being even more beautiful than the original. That has been the case with the new colors of the yarn Workshirt that Kelson Goods created specifically for this pattern (drawing upon several night skies depicted in watercolor works by Andrew Wyeth): Dark Wolf and Muslin (included in the carousel of images above).

Over the years I’ve designed several items using this simple yet elegant slip-stitch combination. The pattern has been a favorite of mine primarily because with little effort, a striking texture emerges that lends itself beautifully to accessories. After figuring out an inconspicuous way to work decrease rounds, the idea for a hat came together quite quickly. I look forward to creating more items with this lovely stitch down the line.
For now, in our present moment, filled as it is with such uncertainty and tumult, as we all try to hunker down and give each other the support and care we need, above all, I send heartfelt wishes to everyone for unity, healing and love.
